The travel grant covers travel-related costs to attend the Humanists@Work career workshop in Berkeley on April 29–30, 2018.

Reasonable roundtrip travel from your home to Berkeley, lodging at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza, and all workshop meals

Program Overview

The Berkeley career workshop for graduate students and faculty will build upon past workshops held in Berkeley, Riverside, San Diego, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, and Silicon Valley. As part of the MLA-funded “Connected Academics: Preparing Doctoral Students of Language and Literature for a Variety of Careers,” UCHRI will fund three students from each UC campus to attend the daylong workshop on Monday, April 30th and networking events on Sunday, April 29th.

How to Apply

Applications from UC humanities PhDs are accepted exclusively online via UCHRI’s FastApps system.

  • Public-facing bio of a few sentences, reflecting how you would represent yourself to employers outside the academy (not a scholarly bio!). What experiences or talents or forms of expertise make you interesting and unique?
  • Statement of purpose (250 words max) addressing your interest in attending the workshop and how it will contribute to your professional development.
  • Contact information for a university employee (staff or faculty) who can verify your enrollment in good standing.
