This dialogue with researchers and activists in Cairo was held to learn from people involved on the community level about urgent issues pertaining to Muslim communities. Organized by a UCHRI residential research group studying Muslim dissidence, the virtual dialogue’s agenda was to understand localized human rights approaches in Egypt, eschewing ahistorical Western conceptions of “Arab culture” or “Islam.” Nayan Shah of UC San Diego was the residential research group convener.
