It is with deep and abiding sadness that we announce the much too early passing of our dear friend, colleague, and co-worker, Anh Nguyen.

After an early career as a web developer and software engineer for private industry, Anh joined UCHRI in 2010. During his time at the Institute, Anh collaborated in a leading role on the development of numerous web projects, including “FastApps,” UCHRI’s online application and review system, a complete overhaul of UCHRI’s website and digital visual identity, and the launch of our publishing platform Foundry. He managed the Digital Media and Learning’s various web presences, programmed the website for the International Consortium for Critical Theory Programs, while managing the digital security protocols that enabled staff to work confidently and safely in a wide variety of environments. Anh had an abiding interest from early on in “digital badging,” and in the past few years developed a passion for photography, both technically and aesthetically. A vital resource for all things digital, Anh was an integral part of the UCHRI team and helped shepherd colleagues old and new through the vagaries of IT across the Institute’s many touchpoints and initiatives.

“All who have known Anh will remember a caring person committed always to going well beyond the call of duty in addressing all technological problems, large and small,”  said UCHRI Director David Theo Goldberg. “Anh bore with him an enormous curiosity, an eye for the aesthetic of fine signature code, a wry sense of humor, and an appetite for food he was irrepressibly concerned to share with all.”

A quiet if larger-than-life presence, Anh Nguyen touched us all. We will miss him enormously even as he will remain among us always.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8. For the location, time, and other information, please see here. If you have any questions, please contact UCHRI Manager Arielle Read at aread@hri.uci.edu
