FlashPoints is a book series in literary and cultural studies that publishes analyses of literature beyond strictly national and disciplinary frameworks, distinguished both by their historical grounding and their theoretical and conceptual strength. The working group grant supported the publication of a book addressing California literature and culture. FlashPoints titles have investigated many global literatures, but not published books addressing literary and cultural expression within the state. Yet the rich spectrum of poetry, literature, and essayistic writing that circulates through California suggests this as a logical area in which to become active.
