This project is a catalyst for collaboration between UC Merced and the economically, racially, and ethnically diverse communities of the City of Merced. The goal of “Gateway to Merced” is to collect oral histories about the city and produce representations of these histories in order to generate greater awareness of shared experiences. This project proposes the creation of a community-engagement hub to anchor Gateway to Merced and build capacity in digital humanities work in the Merced Multicultural Arts Center. This digital humanities project will be supported by graduate students in UC Merced’s Interdisciplinary Humanities program. The students will provide methodological and technical support for the facilities and for the development of community-engaged media production.
