Re-Visioning Abolitionist Futures builds on and advances existing collaborations between abolitionist scholars across the UC system with Critical Resistance (CR), which is the leading grassroots prison industrial complex abolition (PIC) organization. The lead organizers, Setsu Shigematsu, Eric Stanley and Latipa will work with scholars of PIC abolition across five UC campuses to innovatively transform and transmit the collective research and analysis of scholars, frontline abolitionist organizers and formerly incarcerated intellectuals in an accessible filmic form and open-access platform in collaboration with educators affiliated with Critical Resistance. These films will address police abolition, (im)migrant detention and deportation and queer abolitionist organizing.
