Produced by a team of abolitionist scholars and organizers who have built decades-long relationships with incarcerated TGI communities, the Trans Behind Bars podcast centers incarcerated TGI member voices, leading with the principle that those directly impacted by the system of carceral violence remain the best experts in providing analysis and insight as to why prisons cannot offer rehabilitation. Experiences of policing and surveillance make TGI communities especially vulnerable to criminalization, and Trans Behind Bars hopes to show how such mechanisms of punitive control are exacerbated within prisons themselves. Trans Behind Bars highlights how incarcerated TGI survivors are creatively practicing community-led solutions to disrupt cycles of state violence, trauma, and negligence.
