UCHRI is Hiring: UCI Undergraduate Media Assistant

The University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) seeks a UCI undergraduate student assistant to assist with editing photos, videos, and audio files; website content; audiovisual event needs at on-site or off-site locations (contingent on Covid-19 guidelines in place at time of employment); and generating communications materials. Applicants must be currently-enrolled undergraduate students at UCI with the ability to commit to a minimum of 9 hours per week.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Edit videos of past and future events, to be placed on UCHRI’s website, YouTube channels, and other platforms.

  • Edit sound recordings from meetings, events, and interviews to be published as podcasts on Soundcloud, iTunes, or placed in the archive.

  • Assist with generating creative assets—including photo editing and layout design—for UCHRI communication materials (social media, booklets, posters, and other forms of publicity) and for UCHRI’s online publishing platform, Foundry.

  • Assist with content for UCHRI websites, ensuring content is consistent across multiple projects.

  • Assist with technical setup and video recording of local events and productions in the office (contingent on Covid-19 guidelines).

  • Collaborate with and receive direction from UCHRI staff members on projects related to the humanities, working closely with the Research Programs team and IT.

Job Qualifications

  • Required fundamentals in the fields of A/V, media creation, and editing in conjunction with Apple/Mac hardware and software macOS 10.10 and above.

  • Required knowledge of media software: Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Audition, and After Effects; GarageBand for Mac.

  • Preferred ability to work with WordPress CMS, Google Tools for Education, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.

  • Knowledge of best workflow practices for all aspects of video and audio production, from initial planning to recording, editing, and posting.

  • Knowledge of video and image compression for web publications, social media, and other digital platforms.

  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and collaborate with others; strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines under minimal supervision.

  • Expressed interest in visual arts and/or the humanities preferred.
