Julia Reinhard Lupton is Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine, where she has taught since 1989. She is the author of five books on Shakespeare and has edited or co-edited many volumes on Shakespeare, ethics, and political theology. At UC Irvine, she has founded and led several programs, including Humanities Out There, the Humanities Commons (now the Humanities Center), and Illuminations: The Chancellor’s Arts and Culture Initiative. She is a former Guggenheim Fellow and a former Trustee of the Shakespeare Association of America. Co-director of UCI’s New Swan Shakespeare Center, she frequently teaches in the community.
