A member of the UC Santa Cruz Astrobiology & Ethics group since 2021, Madelyn Broome is a PhD candidate in Astronomy & Astrophysics at UC Santa Cruz. She currently works as a Cota-Robles and ARCS Fellow on the math and theory of how exoplanets (alien worlds) form and evolve over billions of years. Passionate about making science accessible, she has written for a variety of pop science publications over the years and currently co-runs the UC’s “Ask and Astronomer” program. She has a lifelong commitment to excite, engage, and elevate historically-excluded learners in STEM, especially other Native American students and young women. When she is not mentoring or teaching students, she is coaching them as assistant coach for the UC Santa Cruz Women’s Rugby team.
