Verónica Aponte is a Latin-American intermedia artist born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1969. She migrated to the U.S. in 2002, and now lives in San Diego, CA. Aponte is interested in issues of modernity, memory, and the disfigurement of identity in a globalized and digitized world. Using historical experiences of geopolitics, memories, and the exploration of the past, Aponte uses video-film, performance, installation, painting, and photography to approach gendered issues of urban and cultural identity. Her most recent work is focused on crossborder art collaborations as a strategy to shorten her distance between the U.S. and her native Venezuela.
