The Transgender Studies Working Group is a collective of scholars working in the interdisciplinary humanities among six University of California campuses. Its aim is to complicate theorizations of the political economy with the notion of transgender, mobilize the next generation of Trans Studies scholars, question the usages of trans as a pedagogy and methodology, and help create networks of academics and activists engaging in timely transgender issues. With the rising visibility of transgender communities around the world, the group seeks to engage in newly formulated questions surrounding transgender subjectivity, narrative, and assemblage. By centralizing the topic of transgender, it complicates multifarious emergent discourses in the humanities that may be troubled by Transgender Studies. The working group will carry out this project in collaboration with transgender activists, academics, organizations, and individuals around the world.
